In C, on a mesh
A web sketch of In C on Stick S3s. One device pulses high Cs and broadcasts each pulse. Every other device follows it with its own slightly wrong clock, works through the patterns at its own pace, and hangs back if it gets three patterns ahead of the slowest player it can hear. No conductor, no shared clock beyond the pulse.
